Speedometer adjustment for new tires
I am planning on getting larger tires come winter when I replace my old ones. I've got a 92 firebird and I want to know how to adjust the speedometer so that it is accurate. Do I need a whole new vss buffer box or can I fiddle with my current one to get the correct signal from it? I'm not talking about a huge change in size, but a 5% speed error is a bit more than I'd like to deal with.

Re: Speedometer adjustment for new tires
The driven gear can be easily changed whenever tire size or gear modifications are made. Once you have the correct replacement driven gear, simply remove the VSS and replace the gears. That's it.
Go to the TCI transmission's web site for further help with the correct driven gear combination.
Good luck

Sorry, I'm still learning about these things. You can just change the gears for the electronic speedometers too? I had thought that only worked for the manual ones. I would not be surprised if I was wrong though. Thanks for your response.

The (electronic) vehicle speed sensor in the transmission tail housing has a replaceable nylon driven gear. No messin with the speedo it'self needed.
Hope that helps

Wow - not sure I'd bother for the minimal change that different tires will make. Now the major differences with swapping rear gearing is worth the effort, but not tire changes (in my world).
