Check engine light

I get my check engine light that comes on intermittently. Anyone have any ideas where I should start checking? Oil and coolant levels are good. New air and PCV filters.....where do I look next?

Re: Check engine light

Why not check the code? Put a piece of wire connecting the A and B terminals on the under-dash connector, then turn the key on. Watch it flash a code 12 three times, then flash any other codes you have.

Re: Check engine light

I've never looked to see if I had an under dash connector. I guess I assumed that since Auto Zone couldn't check anything older than a '96 that there wasn't one.

Right above your knee on the lower dash when you're sitting in the driver's seat.

Re: Check engine light

on 90,91,&92 the connector is in a different location than 89 and earlier . it's located just to the right of the fuse panel . not a real easy location to get at . i bought an OBD1 code reader with a good manual on causes at advance a few years ago . it's much easier to use than the paper clip method . good luck .
