I have a 89 5.0L 305 TPI V8 VIN E. I have been working in the engine bay now have changed out all the fuses, I replaced like for like. I have run into a few electrical issues and in an effort to figure out what's going on I took a look in the owner's manual and some of the fuses were not what I had in there. I also looked at my Chilton manual and some of those are different. I was wondering if someone who has a similar car let me know which one is right
Specifically:
#2 the Fan - the manual says 20 amp yellow and Chilton says … well nothing, no fuse?
#4 the Cooling Fan – The manual says 20 amp yellow (Engine code F&S) nothing for E? Chilton says 20 amp yellow and I had a 25 amp in there when I got the car. I assume I should go with 20 amp .
I have been having trouble with the fans it may or may not be fuse based, just want to get it right. Thanks for your help.

Thanks, that clears it up a bit - it does say for #2 CLSTR a 10 amp rather than a 20 amp in the book . I will give it a try once I get the fuel lines to stop leaking and reduce the chance the car will burst into flame on ignition.
I doubt this is the entire fan issue, I have been reading and searching, now I just need a new fuel line and I can try some of this out.

Thanks again we used that diagram to track down the four Fusible links that now need to be replaced, if i can get anyone at the auto parts store to acknowledge that there is this type of part and someone once may have put it in a car./sigh
Fuel leak solved, timing done and fuel pressure checked out OK ... so it's most likely electrical ... and this IS a good thing?

 

there's usually one or two fusible link part numbers available in the dorman electrical parts goodies, I know I grabbed one recently from advance auto for my own setup. but don't expect most of the younger counterpeople to know what you're talking about

 

Ok here is my dumb fusible link question ...

When it refers to a 20 gauge red wire fusible link "red" is the color of the wire right? It is not part of the description of the part.

SO... if I found Pico 5557A 8" Universal 20 Gauge Fusible Link which have no color I should be good, Right?

I also found - Dorman 85620 FUSE LINK 14 GAUGE GM for the 14 gauge red wire
AND Dorman Fuse Link 16 Gauge Gm 85621 for the 16 gauge red fusible

If you have any thoughts post up, I really am at a loss here, I am just going to buy parts and hope for the best.

Sadly the only problem is I won't get it for a week with shipping, on with think it would be faster being just a couple of cables.

Thanks for the conformation looking forward to replacing these, not fixing the problem and moving on to the next theory ... Hey, at least I am being realistic now. LOL

 

Just think of it this way - if it was a woman, it'd still cost twice as much, give back 1/2 in return, cause 10 times the emotional distress, and wouldn't have an OFF switch!
