Hi beam switch

The lever on the column moves the rod that goes into the switch but the hi beam does not activate. Is it just an adjustment on the switches position on the column or is ther a relay some where i should be checking.

Re: Hi beam switch

most likely just the switch adjustment . just loosen mounting screws for switch , slide switch up column to remove slack , tighten screws . should do the trick . common problem , good luck .

Re: Hi beam switch

do you have to remove the steering wheel to do this, mine is slacked and when i looked at it, it looked like to get the plastic collar off you need to remove the steering wheel or are the adjustment screws towards the bottom of the collum at the end of the rod?

switch is located on steering column , under dash at the end actuator rod . no need at all to remove wheel . good luck .

Re: Hi beam switch

If you have a tilt wheel - set the wheel tilt where you would normally drive, then adjust the switch. On the tilt wheel cars, there's no way to make the switch work correctly at full up AND full down tilt, so something has to give somewhere. so set the wheel at normal driving position first.

Re: Hi beam switch

Im assuming its the little screw on the little gold mount for the switch the rod goes to, can i loosen that screw then slide the mount back then tighten it back? If so, how the heck do you get to it? The smallest open end wrench i got is a 9 mm which is to big and i cant get a socket in there

Re: Hi beam switch

1st. question , yes . 2nd. question , no it's not easy but it's possible . if you loosen the clamp that holds the column to the bottom of the dash that will help . 3rd. question , if i recall the size is 7mm. , go to parts store and buy some small wrenchs & sockets . good luck .
