volts gauge ??

well over the past couple weeks ive noticed that when im driving around my car will randomly jump up its charging, maxing out the stock volt gauge at 18.. i dont think thats to good hah and i even have installed an after market sunpro triple gauge unit with oil volts temp, and on that one it says its at 16. but when i go to slow and and stop the charging drops back down.. idk why this does that, any ideas how i can fix it?

It sounds like the alternator has an intermittent in the regulator.

You’ll probably need to replace the alt.
