How many led bulbs for 80s cluster?
Okay ive been searching and searching and im getting mixed information. Some people are saying it takes 11 bulbs and others 4 bulbs. Im gonna be installing a new cluster this weekend and i want to order my bulbs already.
The ones im getting are supposed to be plug and play without mods, heres the link below, im going with red ones.

Anyone help me out? Thanks.

Do you want LED turn signals, hi beam indicator, Brake, check engine light and fasten seat belt? If so, you'll need to add 6 more bulbs to that 11 for a total of 17.

Before you go buy a bunch of LEDs, the 11 bulbs for the gauges (not including the idiot lights, turn signals, and high beams) are a mixture of 161, 168, and 194 bulbs. Not all of these bulbs can be replaced by LEDs, according to what I've read on this forum. Also, keep in mind that some posters here have had issues with the spread of light the LEDs have versus a conventional bulb. Some LEDs have a wider light spread and some a more concentrated beam of light resulting in a darker looking gauge cluster than desired. I recently replaced all the bulbs in my 1986 Z cluster with conventional bulbs, some were super brights, and not with LEDs because of the brightness issue. Plus at ten bucks a bulb cost was a factor in that decision, too.
Here is what my gauge cluster looked like when I had it apart. I wrote in pencil what bulb went where when I had it apart.

Wow, the silver brought back memories--I did that nearly a decade ago according to the date on the thread. Painting the backside white is also helpful:

That's probably where I got the idea from...thanks! It is one of the quickest and coolest things you can do to liven up the gauge cluster.
