hey guys just have an idea with a concern, im buying ,the beginning of next month a stereo to replace the stock on in my 91 fbird, walmart has a pioneer system ( head unit , 6x9 (2) and 6 1/2(2) )well i found a set of boxes for the 6 1/2s should i splice them in to my 6x9 by crimping them or no? i want to run the wire to trunk part of the car with out spending the money on a amp

Its not a good idea to run 2 pairs of speakers off the same channels of a head unit amp. They are designed with 4 ohms in mind. Stacking 2 pairs drops it to 2 ohms. The head unit will heat up substantially more than it should and will probably die.

how should i go about setting the up with out a amp

You should not.

But if you insist....

Options:

Wire em that way anyway and be REAL careful about your volume levels.

Wire the speakers in series instead of Paralleled.

Add a 4 OHM sandstone resister in front of each speaker. this will increase the nominal impedance to 8 ohms on each driver and drop it back down to 4 Ohms at the radio.

Install the 6 1/2" speakers in the doors and run them off the front channel of the head unit.(Disconnect the 4x6's)

Get an amp.

6.5" speakers mounted in the kick panels will sound way better than the stock 4x6's in the dash. besides. more speakers doesnt always equal better sound....
