wiring question!

hey guys i have kind of a weird question

my 86 ta-carbed 350, standard altenator

the last owner cut out all the stereo equipment and harness'
i came up with an idea
is it possible, with a new, 150 watt aftermarket 12v jack (like a ciggarette lighter) to plug in my peak 100 watt 12v to 120v converter into it, and run a 120v 100 watt soundbar system with the ipod dock an such? i know this sounds completely crazy, but id make a neat box for it an everything.

i guess the underlying question is, can i run the constant 120v outta that peak converter constantly with my altenator? i checked all the specs of all the componants and everything seems fine so far

thanks if anyone can help me! lol

edit-the reason why i wanna do this is because ive allready gutted and redone my center console an dashboard, and i didnt wanna cut it all out AGAINNN

Re: wiring question!

You can do that if you really wanted. Definitely do not use the stock lighter socket or wiring. Your going to want to run new heavier gauge wires fused of course for your new outlet. If you bar is a 100 watts and your convertor is a 100 watts your probably going to over stress the convertor and it may not last long. Why not just get a deck with an aux jack and plug your iphone in that way? Or get something like this http://www.iroconline.com/iRoc/index.html

Your car and you can do what you want it just seems its going to look like a hack job..

Re: wiring question!

Look up the wiring color coding and re-wire in a harness or splice directly to a deck harness. The route you have in mind is a recipe to have your windows broke and your stuff stolen.

Re: wiring question!

thats a lot of extra work and money for no reason. you can easily wire in a cheap aftermarket deck and cheap speakers and have some music in there. it wont sound the best, but its better than trying to wire in a convertor to run an ipod dock and house speakers.

Re: wiring question!

If the stereo harness is that hacked, then all of the speaker wires are probably hacked to pieces as well, behind the dash (not down below, right under the windshield in the conduit running across the car), and down the passenger's side, under the door, and under the back seats. In which case, you're probably better off just all-out replacing the harness and starting from scratch. It will probably cost you about the same either way you do it, but if you replace the harness, it won't be such a good recipe for a break-in.
