Re: gauges
engine type doesnt matter when putting in aftermarket gauges. the sending units dont change. what problems are you having?

Re: gauges
Well some dumba$$ put a junk yard motor in this car(carb junk). The only thing working on the gauges is the alternator gauge. I am going to try and put it back efi but i need the gauges to work

Re: gauges
is the driver side wiring harnes cut at all, or are the senders just disconnected/not working? all the gauge wiring is on the driver side wiring harness. the one that attaches right next to the brake booster. if the wires are just disconnected/senders not working itll be as simple as replacing them or hooking them back up.
the fuel gauge has a purple wire that runs all the way from the tank to the back of the cluster to run the fuel gauge.
the volt gauge just taps into a switched 12v source for the signal.(which explains why its still working)
the water temp gauge should have a sender on the driver side head between #1 and #3 cylinders (on a stock engine) and should be connected to a green wire that runs though the driver side bulkhead connector and to the gauge.
the oil pressure gauge runs of the 3 wire OPSU located right above the oil filter. the orange and grey wires on it are for the fuel pump relay, the other wire (tan i think) runs the oil pressure gauge and also runs through the bulkhead connector and to the gauge.
the tach just taps into the distributor. there should be a white wire plugged into the HEI dizzy (assuming the PO but the correct HEI dizzy on there)
the speedo is the tricky one. on the TPI cars the VSS is wired into the ECM and the ECM runs the speedo. on the TBI cars the VSS feeds into a buffer box that then feeds the ECM and the speedo. the carbed cars had the VSS buffer box on the back of the cluster IIRC. but im not really sure on them since ive never really messed with um. if yours was originally a TBI car, the buffer box will drive the speedo as long as the VSS is hooked up in the trans and the wires arent damaged. if it was orginally a TPI car, youll either have to run the speedo off the ECM (if its still there) or wire in a buffer/converter box (if the ecm isnt there) to get the correct PPM to the speedo.

Re: gauges
Hey Travis thanks for you help it is very nice to have people give help such as yourself. I had forgotten alot about these cars even I have owned 7 of them and now I just need to make this nice and never let it go. I plan to get the car going with temporary motor so I can slowly build my ls1 into 454 or something just not sure about cubic inches yet. I can get all gauges to work like the car is now thanks to your help. As for the speedo i will just buy gps and use it for speed.
