Engine runs after turning off ignition few seconds
Engine runs after turning off ignition few seconds
Hi,
I have an 87 TA with a 350 carbed manual fuel pump, electric fan. I hooked up wiring for sub amp and it melted and shorted out on the manifold. It blew a whack off fuses which i replaced now the engine will run a few seconds after I turn off ignition switch. It seems to run ok just doesnt shut off immediately like it used to and is annoying me. Any ideas thanks in advance. I just got this car so I am unfamiliar with what happened to the wiring when they swapped the motor to an older 350 vette engine from the original 305 tpi automatic

Re: Engine runs after turning off ignition few seconds
the most common cause is wiring the electric fan to the ignition system.
when the fan looses power, it acts like a generator supplying enough power to the coil to keep the spark going for a few seconds.
running the fan off the ignition also robs the the ignition system of power and can kill the ignition module.
use a relay to supply the fan with power from the battery.
