New Owner of '89 GTA...turn signal/parking lights issue plus other light problems...
Recently bought an '89 GTA. Has the typical Firebird issues such as the nylon gears on the headlight motors being completely deteriorated and what not. Working on the car today and noticed that the passenger side parking/turn signal lights blink when the blinker is on but when you turn on for the parking lights they don't. For the driver's side they turn on but don't blink. The turn signal tail lights are also sharing the same problem. What could be causing this?
Also noticed that the passenger side light doesn't turn on as well as the taillight. Brake lights work, but when you turn the lights on the passenger side stays off. Could this be a wiring issue or would simply changing the bulb fix it? I know it could simply be changing the bulb, but I want to see if the headlight and taillight issue are connected (ie a common wire, etc) before spending money on bulbs and they end up not working.

FYI, more than likely the nylon gears are fine. You just need to replace the OEM hard gel bushings that were inside the triangular-shaped cavity of the gear. You need the $20.25 TDS 209280 deluxe headlight repair kit. It will fix both headlights. My web site is currently offline so call me for the kit.

Hopefully the PO didn’t mess with wiring.
If that’s the case you’ll have to physically trace the wires to find the modification.
Make sure all bulbs are good, and that you don’t have a stop lamp in place of a turn signal or vice-versa.
Make sure all 3-contact type bulbs are not installed backwards.
Some wild symptoms have been reported when bulbs are the incorrect type or installed wrong.
Using a 12 volt fused supply, apply 12 volts to one bulb at a time to make sure each bulb is grounded while observing no unassociated bulbs come on.
