no start NEED HELP

hey, so i've been using your forums to help with my 92 rs 25th for about a year now but this new problem has me totally stumped. I had an intermittent starting issue for a while where i would put in the key and get power but the starter wouldn't crank. then i started noticing that my security light wasn't flashing on the times my car wouldn't start. After lots of work and research i determined it was my "starter enable relay" that little relay tucked up behind the fuse box. I pulled the relay out (the connectors were fried) and put in a new one, the car started perfectly since. then i unhooked the battery to replace my stereo which had died months before (i got it out of a 95 durango) with a used aftermarket stereo from a buddy (its a blaupunkt). I'm sure i put the stereo in right, but after reconnecting the battery my car will not crank and my security light will not come on at all. i tried removing the stereo and trying it again but it makes no difference. i also checked my new relay which appears to be fine. What have i done? and more importantly, how do i fix it?

Re: no start NEED HELP

ok so my security light is not coming on when i turn the key which makes me think maybe my vats? i am thinking of replacing the ignition lock cylinder, it seems to be the only other thing that could be keeping me from starting since all my wiring and fusable links seem ok. my brand new relay is still fine and all my major ignition components are new. if anyone has any input feel free to comment.

Re: no start NEED HELP

ok so i think i may have this vats problem beat. i have a push button ignition that i put in the dash (wired it just below the ignition switch because this was believed to be the problem) that i was going to try wiring directly to the starter. this should effectively bypass my vats circuit, therefor allowing my car to start yes?

It allows the starter to turn , that is all.
If you do ACTUALLY have a true VATS problem ( not a starter problem )
then because VATS takes out the fuel injectors all you will have is crank / no start

Read and understand about what you are playing with
https://www.thirdgen.org/vats_passkey_system

As far as the relay goes , you can remove it completely and just join the starter wires together so VATS plays no part in starter circuit
