Can I even do this?

I want to go with an aftermarket Tach and Speedo... I am going with the Autometer Phantoms but I don't want to replace the whole cluster...just the tach and speedo.

Can I custom fit the gauges in the places of the stock speedo and tach? They should be (give or take) around the same size. The housing is just plastic so I could do some clean cuts if they are to large.... Bezel is just a matter of making sure looks clean and even

Thought's... suggestions?

Measure the available space in the dash, then compare that to the dimensions of the instrument you chose.

You might have to remove their cases for fitment.

Electrically the tach will be easy to wire in.

+, , and the
white wire from the in-dash wires to present tach circuitry to the new tach dist-in, and the illumination line.

Which speedometer did you intend to use?

Re: Can I even do this?

My cluster is cut for a 5" tach, sig. lighter was replaced with shift light, they're gone now though.

My brother recently replaced his factory tach with a 5" autometer in the factory hole, he replaced either oil press. or water temp gauge with the shift light, it looks pretty good i'll try to get pics

Re: Can I even do this?

Planning on going with the Autometer Phantom Speedo/Tach Pair. They are 5in like the factory gauges so I think I'll be able to literally replace them with little/no modification.

Yeah man, Grab me some pics. I just want a better tach and a speedo that works! So might as well get a decent aftermarket pair to slide into place. The rest of the gauges and dash are fine.

That's cool. It beats mounting the tach to the dash like most people do. Clean install

That is exactly what I am wanting to do, expect have a matching speedo on the other side.

Did he have to do any modifications to the internal plastic to get it to fit?

He cut it up, not sure how much he took off though, you might be able to pull them out of the cases and fit them in without cutting up the internal plastic

That's fine. I don't mind doing a little bit of modding. Excited on how it'll look and turn out. Just wanted to make sure that it was possible and not totally out of the question.
