What is this connector? And starting problems!

I've had nothing by problems with my camaro the last 3 weeks. The vats module died so everything is apart and yadda yadda. Long story. Anyway, I jumped the starter relay and it used to work. Now, the wire just gets fried. I believe that something is shorting out maybe.

I've uncovered some wires and followed some of them. I believe my problem is the purple wire going from the gear selector switch to the starter. In the middle of looking I found a connecter (pic below). What is it?

I'll obviously try that harder, because I looked quick last night and didn't see anything.

I need to get this figured out. I put a bypass in for vats and it still doesn't crank. SO the starter isn't getting any signal. And I can't seem to get the starter aligned right!
