speedometer question

I've found that my speedo stopped working. I thought it was the vsS so I changed it. No luck. Then I traced the wires and checked them with no prob there. Ive so far eliminated the vsS and wiring and purchased new gauges. I went to install the gauges and found that the plugs for the two speedometers are different. Does anyone else have this problem? Anyone know where I can buy the board the speedometer plugs into?

Re: speedometer question

I have changed out the gauges but still the speedometer doesn't work. I've replaced the vss as well as the gauges and checked the printed circuit board. I guess that Leaves the wiring and ecm right?

Is there a place to get the board the speedo plugs into? I think its the only thing I haven't tried to replace...

Re: speedometer question

Any suggestions. I'm going to set it up on stands and put her in drive while metering the vSS to ensure that correct. Would a different ecm cause this problem. Its one from a v6 Beretta. I do have a modified chip burn on the ecm. Is there something in the program that's wrong?

Re: speedometer question

are you using a 1227730 ecm? if so they were used on several applications the memcal would need to be for a v8. this ecm has a internal buffer. The vss signal goes to b9 witch is ground and b10 is the signal input at the ecm. The output too the ecm is optical coming out at B11.

Re: speedometer question

If the memcal was reprogramed to optical input the vss will not work unless you rewire and use a vss buffer.

Re: speedometer question

I'm not sure whether or not it was reprogrammed to optical. I had it done by a local tuner but never got the .xdf and .bin files. That was the reason I was given as to why my laptop with USB to aldl cable and tuner pro rt can't read the ecm. I know if I could read it I could see the signal from the vss

Re: speedometer question

I'll get the identifiers for the ecm when I get home. I know the memcal was changed and adapted with hardware from moates that I bought and provided to the tuner

Re: speedometer question

so your using a memcal with a g1 adapter ? is that when the issues started. I assume he programed out the vats so you are unable to try just the memcal alone without any alternative programing.

Yes the adapter is there. Not sure if that's where the speedometer problem started since the engine was being rebuilt. Before that the car was towed to my shop. He said he removed vats but if I take out my resistor the security light will come on and it appears that vats shuts down the system.

Re: speedometer question

was this a tbi to tpi conversion, just trying to gather all the information from you too help. if the pass key module is still connected and the key cylinder with the bypass resister you should be able to run off the memcal and see if you have a speedometer then.

Re: speedometer question

you might take out the adapter too see if you have a speedometer with it removed to rule out the new programing.

Re: speedometer question

as long as the vats is still working yes it will start and run. Im not sure how the tune was changed on the piggyback. the code on your old memcal will be identified as 4 letters. just remove the adapter and install the memcal back in.

Re: speedometer question

do you have the means to erase and reprogram the eprom? did you ever get the letters off the top of your memcal ? If you post it I will identify it for you.
