Did I screw up? Prom, ECM, & Chip Question
Being new to this, I was already confused - now I'm even more lost and I'm not sure what I need to do...
I'm converting my 1985 Camaro 305 TPI to a 383 with the HSR. Based on some recommendations, I decided to change over to the 1990-1992 style ECM. Well, I found the ECM on Ebay, only it said it didn't come with the Prom or Prom cover. I thought this was okay, but I was confused between the Prom and the Chip. So, I had PCM For Less make me a custom chip and I just received it...and realized that it is supposed to plug into the Prom, which then goes into the ECM. At least I think that's all correct...
If so, I now have a ECM and a custom-tuned chip with no Prom, and I have no idea how to get one. I searched Ebay and found a couple that say 1990 Camaro or Firebird, but they say V6 and I'm not sure I can use that even with the new chip. Others all come with chips and are like $250/$300. Can someone please point me in the right direction? Thanks.

Re: Did I screw up? Prom, ECM, & Chip Question
The 1227730 style ECM uses a MEMCAL, which contains a PROM, as well as the CALPAK, and Knock Filter (KF).
You really should use a MEMCAL from a V8, due to the CALPAK and KF. The V6 CALPAK can be modified to allow for proper 8 cylinder firing scheme, but the Limp Home Mode (LHM) won't be set-up correctly. The KF may also be an issue if you use one from a 6cyl.
The MEMCAL will plug into the side of the adapter, to retain the CALPAK, LHM and KF parts, while using the programming from the new PROM.

Re: Did I screw up? Prom, ECM, & Chip Question
Wow...thanks for the info/response, but like 95% of that is over my head.
So if I get a MEMCAL, it needs to be off of a V8 car from 1990-1992, is that correct? Does it matter which V8, 305 or 350? And any suggestions on where to purchase one and what I should expect to pay?

Unforunately this is what you need, but they can be had for less.

Ugh. Okay. I assume the chip I got programmed already will work with this?
I see this one says "AUJP" but that :ANHT", and "AXXB" are available. Is the AUJP the one I want? And I assume that I want the VATS removed?

There are instructions on using a external esc with the 730 ecm and converting a v6 3.1L memcal for the cylinder select fire rate at the attached link look at the last page pdf file. There are also v8 sd memcals in the classifieds here on tgo.
