Upgrading to 140amp Alternator, which wires need to be changed????
Ok, I got hands on a PowerMaster #47861 140 amp Alternator and a Optima Red Top battery for my future stereo install. I'm going to install em this weekend. I just wanted to ensure all my ducks were in line. Alternator and battery are pretty much plug and play...BUT I read on here that when upping to a higher amp alternator you SHOULD do the wires to the alternator and the battery ground as well. Can someone tell me exactly what wires need to be changed and what gauge wire should be used? I think all I should need is Red and Black primary wire? In 6 gauge? Not sure. Can someone break it down to me Barney Style???? I want to grab everything I need at O'Reilly's so I can start early Saturday. Thanks.
