STUCK - Brake lights don't work?!?!

Driving to the Auto Hobby Shop on Base to do my spark plugs on the lift today, I got pulled over for my brake lights not working? My 3rd eye level brake light works but my rear brake lights on my tail light do not. I'm not sure, but when I turn my lights on, it looks like the tail lights are super bright as if the brake was depressed, but not sure. This has happened before but by GM magic they just started working again.

Here is what I did. With Chiltons in hand, checked all the fuses. Even switched 2 up and they all seem to work fine. I took off the tail lights, checked all connections, although old, they looked good. By the trunk latch and trunk light (after I removed the panel), there WAS 1 black wire hanging that was not plugged in. It came from the same group of wires that plugged into the third eye level brake light. I couldn't find where it was plugged in for the life of me!??!? Could it have been the automatic trunk release? It is an option my car didn't have but sometimes they still come with all the wiring.

I then put a tester to the wires near the brake switch (by the brake pedal) and all wires were hot all the time. The wire diagram shows that 2 wires are always hot and 2 are only hot when the brake is depressed. Could it be a bad switch? I ordered the swtich from O'Reilly (no cruise control) and it will be in tomorrow at noon. After that I'm tapped out.

Included is a photo of the wire, near the trunk light and rear hatch that was unplugged and I could not figure out where it went?

Any help would be great.

That problem is consistent with the bulbs being installed incorrectly (180° rotated).

However if that’s not the problem, and the new switch doesn’t cure it, repost.

Well the old switch worked...when it wanted too. So I thought it was something else. Fuses, lights, light bulbs...got a new brake switch and it was on the Money!
