Hey guys,

Ive got an 87 GTA but ive fitted the 82-84 rear lights and want them to work like the 82-84 lights.

i recently took the tail light harness out to paint the rear and its all hacked up and been rewired by a previous owner, and the lights dont light up the way i want it too. only one on each side lights up when you brake instead of two, only two on each side light up when the lights are on, instead of all 3

im just wondering if the harnesses are interchangable ? mines got a white connector plug, heres a pic

 

It all depends on if you have the "base" style lights from 84 where the turn signal is amber and "under" the tail lamps. If you got the 84 style that's like yours, you could just figure out which wires light up and splice them together. Failing that, buy a new tail lamp harness assembly, pretty sure classic industries or Year One sells them.

 

No the 82 - 84 lights are all red, even the Firebird ones. I thought about re wiring it myself but id rather just buy a complete used one, im just trying to check that if i buy a harness from an earlier car it will plug into my wiring ok
