How do I wire my temp gauge??

Engine: 5.0 L (Carbed)
Transmission: 5-Speed
Axle/Gears: Lazy 2 check
How do I wire my temp gauge??
So my temp gauge is really off in my 84 z28 (carbed engine) and I was thinking of going to Autozone and buying one of there $20 temp gauges but I am not to sure to which wires Ide have to tap into to get the right temperature readings. Ive wired a tachometer in the car before is it similar?thanks!

Mech or Elec gauge?
If elec , does it use stock GM temp sender ,
does it require it's own special sender ,( need to install in the head)
does sender come with the gauge ( often not )
Only a matter of running a wire from the sender to the gauge and then hooking up 12V and a ground
