Theres a Ghost in my car

I have an 89 Camaro RS 305 TBI (nothin fancy) only thing done was put an aftermarket cam in. Was told that I would not need to chip it and should go right in and work fine.

I recently got the car on the road about 2 weeks ago and have taken it on short adventures finding more and more weird and wacky things.
For starters the engine will occasionally act as if it is starved for gas checked fuel pressure, holding good.
on every other trip it seems that the SES light comes on when driving. Once stopped the car will sometimes idle fine and others act as if starved for fuel. Light remains on at idle regardless. Also when idling rough the oil pressure jumps way up and way down (gauge?) has brand new oil sending unit. Also when idling rough the volt meter will jump and if turn signal on goes up and down as current goes to turn signal.
In addition to that the car will sometimes not start as if the starter is bad, but not getting any click at starter and volt meter reads 11. Let sit for long period of time cranks right up .
And lastly my Tach will only go as low as 5 when idling or sitting and speedo is bouncing crazy.

Boy have I got a lemon or what. If anyone can answer even one of these daunting questions I would greatly appreciate it.

Thanks in advance

Sounds like a handful of problems! For one, get your battery checked, seems like that might affect a few of the problems. The oil im not sure about, gauge work correctly?

Also I know how it is posting with no replies!

How big of a cam did you go btw? A huge cam will mess the computer up for sure

Re: Theres a Ghost in my car

Have you went over all the wiring in the car to make sure nothing has been cut and exposed to create problems? Tested the Batt and alternator?

With that cam I would still look into tuning it as no matter what the cam is not stock and your running a stock tune.

There may be an issue with the gauges I'm not sure I know that the temp gauge is not working as the needle has fallen off.

I haven't gone over it yet was trying to see if maybe it was a fluke thing someone else has experienced. Maybe to find an "easy fix" (ha ha).

Will take and have battery and alternator tested tomorrow and maybe that is the issue.

As far as tuning goes, I am totally green to this how would I go about tuning it?What would you recommend with this cam

Thanks for the insight

Re: Theres a Ghost in my car

Yeah you can; jacking other people's threads is considered bad form because it takes attention away from their problem, and makes further discussion confusing. That's 3 threads I've just read that you've posted the same post on now; at least this one was not fresh. Cudo's for searching at least, but start your own thread.

That said, not sure about your ses light problem, but something sounds awful up front, like alternator bearings or something like that. And it sounds like you're down a cylinder maybe when you rev it.

Re: Theres a Ghost in my car

I hade similar problems with my 92 RS but I managed to correct most of the problems. The previous owner tried to make alterations because he never understood the electrical components and he thought by eliminating could work but it just worsened. The first thing I did when I bought my Camaro is inspect the fuses and I found out they had the wrong ones installed so I replace with the right ones, I had the battery replaced, new alternator, new stereo and just installed the factory fog lamps on them. I'm saving right now to send it to an electrical specialist to restore the interior wiring and the fan wiring because it was so messed up the speedometer stopped working.
