Rear Light Malfunction
My 86 rear tail lights are not working properly. The only lights that work correct are the brake lights although the third brake light does not work at all. Took apart the third brake light and good bulbs and connections. As for the turn signal lights, if you have one on, both flash at the same time (similar to hazard). Running lights do not work at all and hazards only work when lights are on.
I ended up changing all the bulbs (figure i prob should since never has been done since i owned the car) and cleaned the bulb connections.
I think that it might be the turn signal switch. My camaro was originally a 2.8 v6 with tilt steering. I recently changed the turn signal switch in the tilt steering column and problem seemed to happen after i put it in. I bought the new switch from oreillys (part # S3246) which is a 10 prong male connector. I looked under the steering column and realized that the female connector is a 9 prong.
Is this the problem?

Well i would need to find the correct turn signal switch i guess. Ill prob go round to the auto parts stores tomorrow to figure if they can get a 9 prong switch. Otherwise it is acting like a grounding issue.

all fixed, turn signal switch i had was correct. Ground wire was not grounded properly and was causing the issue.

I have the same problem as well, and I'm slowly restoring the car. It must be that ground wire for the turn signal switch. Where is that ground wire located ? Thanks

Re: Rear Light Malfunction
the ground for the rear lights is a black wire from the left rear of the car. If you take some of the rear interior trim away from the car, on the driver side in the rear there should be a wire loom and follow the wires going to the electric hatch motor. There should be a black, yellow and possibly an orange wire. The black is the ground for the lights. That was the wire not properly grounded on my car.
