gta tail light wiring
I'm totally lost with this...okay, my stock harness was standard firebird tails. Also, when i got the car, wires had been played with before(harness conector missing and wires spliced), everything worked right though...now, wht I have pictured is the new gta tail harness conector(car side) and wires coming frm my car...dnt know if you can see the wire colors. If not, Ill try to post better shots. Wht do I need to do get this together? I matched up the plug wires to my wires, then plugged in the gta harness and got nothing...like I said, lost...any help?

I'm hoping you just have it worded wrong, but it reads as if you are wiring a car-side harness to a car-side harness.
"gta tail harness conector(car side) and wires coming frm my car"
Where is the tail light end harness connecting? I know the standard harness & GTA lights can be spliced, but I don't recall enough to tell you enough to say how to do it.

Re: gta tail light wiring
You're completely missing a couple of connectors... Red/white is for the hatch pulldown, for starters.
GTA connector doesn't have the connection for the separate brake lights, which is a light blue wire in the actual tail harness. Or should be, on a base model. The GTA runs the brake signal through the turn signal switch to actually turn the brake lights on the side where the turn signal is activated OFF when the turn signals are turned on (left or right). The brake lights are actually run via the turn signal lights.
Not entirely sure of the entire scope of your project, but I do have a spare body and a couple tail harnesses if you're interested. And other advice, as I've done the base Bird to T/A-style tail swap (actually 86-92 base to 82-85 base lights, but the point is the same).

Re: gta tail light wiring
To splice GTA lights to the standard light chassis wiring, look at the wiring for the STS setups. That will show you how do splice them together.

Re: gta tail light wiring
Told you I was confused...lol. Let me try again...I removed my standard harness. My standard harness was missing connectors(wires were spliced together and wrapped with tape)previous owners work. Ok, I purchased frm local salvage yard trans am tails with harness(donor car, i'm believing, was 89 Trans Am or newer, definately didn't look older than my 89). When I pulled them, I took the car side connector of the donor(pigtail) in hopes I could use it as my cars new connecting end...everything was(is) a mess... I'm gonna post some pics to try to better explain better what's going on.
1st pic... wires coming to back of car for tail lights (no end connector originally there)

2nd pic... pigtail connector pulled from donor car
http://i1068.photobucket.com/albums/...andpat/029.jpg
3rd pic... new Trans Am tail light harness also from donor car
http://i1068.photobucket.com/albums/...andpat/030.jpg
4th pic... my rear hatch motor assembly with various loose wires (I recognize which ones are for ground but coming from the relay there's a yellow wire and a black wire both with connector ends. the yellow wire is connected to another black wire with orange stripe. the black wire is connected to a red wire with white stripe.)
http://i1068.photobucket.com/albums/...andpat/025.jpg
5th pic... random connector with wires coming out. have no idea where it goes in. wasn't wired in fully when i got car. No idea
http://i1068.photobucket.com/albums/...andpat/026.jpg
Thanks again for any input... Would love to understand this configuration. lol

Re: gta tail light wiring
Well...when I got the car, it was all rigged frm previous owner. There was no car end connector...all spliced together. Only car end connector I have is frm the gta donor

Re: gta tail light wiring
First, get rid of those LED bulbs in the tail harness. They don't work, period. Mine lasted approximately 2 minutes, until I turned the flashers on (I had them in the turn signal housings in the front), when they burned themselves up.
Need an end pic of the mystery connector in pic 5... The terminal end, obviously.
I might be wrong, but it's possible that a couple of those hatch motor wires are wired into the light on the trim panel back there. Unless the panel still has the black switch on it. AFAIK, there shouldn't be any wires in the hatch motor harness with connectors on them other than the red/white power wire.
I'll dig out the 87 FSM I have to get some more info, but the FIRST thing you have to do to convert to T/A tails is remove the driver's side kick panel and rewire part of the 2-part connector at the front of the body harness. You need to connect the light blue wire in terminal B on the body harness side to the white wire in terminal A on the dash harness side, which reroutes the brake signal through the turn signal switch. The T/A harness doesn't have the separate brake wire, and this is required to get the brake lights working, as I said before.

Re: gta tail light wiring
I'll get tht close up pic up of mystery connector...thanks for all the guidance, take any I can get! lol
As for the led...I read up on the subject and found tht you have to splice in led resistors for them to work right...dunno, you got me thinking to look in on tht some more...thanks!
