Replace this wiring

Hi all.

I want (not necessarily need) to replace this wiring. It's only a short piece, but to short for my liking. But whats the Black thing on the wire? If I replace it do I need whatever that is? Ignore the Blue tape, that's just temporary.

Re: Replace this wiring

Hard to tell with the tape wrapped around it but the black piece could be either:
A) a connector
B) a fusible link (hardwired fuse that once it blows, it must be cut out and replaced)

If you remove the tape, does the orange wire pull out or is it soldered in and cannot be separated? That will tell you for sure.

That is your fused link you must keep this. You must incorparate that into your new wiring. I think you can get a new one at the parts store, or make one using a piece of wire three sizes smaller than the wire you are protecting. You can use the one you have there also.

Cool. I might just extend the Orange wire. Any idea what the Orange wire is for? As far as I can tell, it just goes to a single wire that has something to do with the check engine light. But I could be wrong.

Re: Replace this wiring

There's extra wiring going everywhere. Why so hung up on that particular one?

Re: Replace this wiring

The other wires I know where they go and are in reasonable condition and don't have any black block thing on them. Plus this Black one is just a bit too short and I want to replace the battery terminal block.
