Putting in Power Mirrors?
Putting in Power Mirrors?
I just bought a 92 Camaro RS w/ a V8. Unfortunately, there are NO power features. I am going to put in power everything however. The power windows and locks will be easy. It is the mirrors that I am wondering about. Can it even be done? How much will it cost? What do I need to buy?

If the factory did it, it must be possible. You would need the power mirrors, harness from the mirrors to the switch and power and the switch to control them on the door. If there is a relay in the harness I guess you would need that too. See what's on a wiring diagram and put it in

Admittedly not a Camaro but I have seen power mirror setups for Firebirds at Thirdgenranch. You might see if he has any for your Camaro. Worth a try.

Re: Putting in Power Mirrors?
The electric motors attach to the same mounting points inside the morror pod as the manual mirrors. There were two styles of power mirror motor. Early motors attach the mirror backing plate to the motor with a screw. The later style uses a cross-shaped metal piece that snaps into molded slots on the back of the mirror pad. To replace the mirror glass on the old style you have to break the mirror to access the hidden screw. On the late style you just power the mirror to the extreme physical limit, then reach behind the backing plate and pop off the cross-shaped metal piece. To install the old style mirror attach the backing plate with the screw, then remove the adhesive strips from the backside of the mirror glass and press it in place. To install the late style mirror backing just snap it onto the cross-shaped piece making sure it snape into the slots. If the mirror backing plate already has a mirror on it, use a few layers of newspaper on the glass to pretect yourself in case you break the mirror and snap it on as described previously.

Re: Putting in Power Mirrors?
Easiest method is to get a set of power mirrors from a donor or junkyard car, complete with the harness. Use a Haynes manual or other wiring diagram, add in the appropriate size fuse for the new circuit, and make sure to grab the control switch and panel to complete the install. My 1983 Z28 had manual mirrors originally, but now has a power set off a 1992 RS.

Re: Putting in Power Mirrors?
Its really easy to do man as I swapped mine in when I stripped the interior out. It can be done without going that in depth. Run the wires to the door s and power and ground and basically done
I also have a extra set of power mirriors and a harness if you need them.
