New speedo gauge face, how to recalibrate?
I decided to swap LEDs into my 92's cluster. I tried a few things to get rid of the yellow tint on the numbers/ticks but to no avail. For now I'm putting it back together and will deal with it, but to me this is not done. I found some older threads posting pics of aftermarket gauge faces, found some I really liked and was willing to pay the premium for them.
The only problem is, they only have a 145mph gauge. My car is a RS 305 with the 110mph gauge. I looked into recalibrating the speedo to compensate for the different, smaller rate of needle movement (I assume I'd need to? More ticks with the same sweep?) and found there were a few things that can be done.
-Change the trans gears feeding the VSS with a signal (I have a 700R4)
-Splice in an aftermarket VSS buffer like the Dakota Digital SGI-5 etc
-Wire up DIP switches
-Deal with the yellow tint
However, in all of the articles and posts I've read, this is to adjust for changes to the rear, tire sizes, or a new trans outputting a different signal. Are any of the above options going to help me do what I need to? Most of these, if not all, only factor in the differential and tire size to account for the pulse rate. None of these things is changed from stock, so how would this help me? Wouldn't it be the same? $85 for an SGI-5 is a lot of money to spend just to make a simple cosmetic change work as I'd like, though this seems the easiest way, as I imagine what I'm trying to change is the pulse rate of the PWM signal. Is my logic off?
I'm far from experienced and certainly don't claim to know how most of these things work in tandem, I only know what I've read, so I'm turning to you guys. What do I need to do?
Edit: Did some more digging and I figure I can swap in a 145mph speedo and then just change the face. At least from what I've read here:
https://www.thirdgen.org/forums/inte...eedo-swap.html
It's straightforward and should read properly as long as my trans and rear are stock (and they are). If anyone has any input on this please feel free to post, I'm just assuming I'm on track with this. My father has spent most of his life inside engine bays and under cars but he's never dealt with this so he's at a loss.
Update: Going price for Z28 clusters these days is around $200. What happened to the world. Soon these things will be almost as expensive as first gens! I don't know what to do. There must be a cheaper way to get this done.

Re: New speedo gauge face, how to recalibrate?
Bump.
I still need help or at least clarification with this. I just want to know a way to make new 145MPH gauge faces work on my car in the cheapest way possible. At this point, even just letting me know if the Dakota Digital SGI-5 would solve this would help a lot, because I'm at the point where I'm willing to throw $85 at it.
Anyone, please?

Re: New speedo gauge face, how to recalibrate?
The right way is to put in a matching 145 mph speedometer from a Z28. You can find them almost free at junkyards (that's what most resellers here to, pay $10 for it and then offer it here for $200 - making easy money, that's what happened to this country, to answer your question).
Anyway, if you try to change the VSS gear or modify the signal frequency with the Dakota digital box, you will introduce an error to the odometer reading and that is wrong (and illegal).

Thank you! I'll troll some junkyards for a new cluster. I really appreciate the reply!
