Keyless Remotes not working after changine car battery out.

My son just got a 1986 Z28.

We had to replace the old battery. Up to this point all the remotes for the keyless entry work fine. Now after replacing the battery none of the remotes work. Well they do some times if you hit the buttons enough times.

It seems to be like the remotes and the receiver need to be reset backup?

The remotes look like they are from about the same time period as the car, but from what I have found these cars did not come with keyless entries. So it was most likely dealer installed.

Does anyone know how to get them reset and working again?

Thanks

That is consistent with not a programming/resetting problem

Will the remotes work more consistently if they are close to the remote receiver unit?

Have you tried putting batteries in the remotes? The new battery in the car could be a red herring, and it's cheap enough to find out, like $5 at Walmart at the jewelry counter or photography department. Just pop the cover off and look at the battery inside, it'll have a number or letter designation depending on the style of battery, either printed or engraved. Also, if there's no apparent battery door, you'll have to pry the entire back off the remote gently. All the GM factory key fobs I've had were this style.
