wire harness question

Hello peeps,

I did a search and kinda got an answer but not a definitive one.
I had recently bought a used wire harness for my sd 90 gta.
The one on the car was a hack job.
My question is it looks relatively easy to replace but looks can be deceiving.
I don't have to jack the car up (i.e. connect to the tranny) to replace this
do I?
Also, for those that have replaced their engine harness, how difficult did you
find it and how long did it take?

Re: wire harness question

its easier if you jack the car up as the reverse switch is halfway up the tranny and its pretty far in there to reach. To get the old out properly and run the new one properly Id say 3hrs to be safe 2hrs actually but a hour extra for any unforseen issues. Like a idiot that wont stop textingyou while your working on your car LOL

Re: wire harness question

That sounds about right, 2-3 hours to replace the harness. You just need to jack up the driver side to reach under to get to the 2 connectors on that side of the transmission: the square 4-prong transmission connector and the two-prong VSS connector.
No reverse lights on this one, those are operated by the shifter switch in the center console.

You might need to pull off the passenger side wheel to remove the splash guard and fish the harness out the hole in front of the passenger door (it goes to the ECM under the dash that way).

The C100 can look deceiving too. But no worries, the headlight harness comes off and detaches completely so it is separate from the engine harness.

Good luck and remember to drink the six-pack AFTERWARDS! :-D

FWIW: it really helps to take pictures of everything in detail beforehand. I speak from experience.

Hope this helps
Lou

Re: wire harness question

Thanks for the info guys. I have access to a lift so that helps.
I did have a question about one wire that is on my replacement harness.
It is red and it goes to the cluster of the 3 relays on the driver's side.
What does it connect to?
Here is a pic:

There are wire colors: green, gray, black, orange and the unconnected red.
Ideas??????

Re: wire harness question

This is your "fuel pump prime" connector. You can disregard it.
