Mystery Wire Connected to Battery

Hey guys, I've got a large blue wire that was connected to the battery of my 86 T/A when I bought it, and for the life of me I can't figure out its purpose. I know it's not stock, but I figured if anyone would know it would be TG.org. haha

I followed it back through the firewall and I can see it goes under my stereo/heater controls and follows along my center console then disappears. I wouldn't think much of it other than the fact that it's pulling spark from somewhere. Quite a lot actually. But I've had it disconnected for a while now and as far as I can tell everything on the car works just fine. :/

Any ideas?

Re: Mystery Wire Connected to Battery

That's what I suspected as there was a large sub in the back when I bought it, but I removed it when I got it back home so if that was the case it shouldn't still be pulling spark I wouldn't think.

I would second the guess for an amp.
When you pulled the sub out did it have the speaker wires running to it. If so they should have led straight to the amp.
Without an amp there should be no draw but maybe not if they put in a digital capacitor etc. I would look in the spare tire well or the rear storage box area to see if there is any signs of that wire end there.

that definitly powered an amp , the clear clamps holds the fuse, just twist it open and pull fuse then unscrew from battery.

It seems everyone I talk to also agrees with you guys that it's an amp fuse. I just can't figure it out because there's just no sign of one anywhere! There's just no place left to hide one other than under the carpet. haha Oh well, I guess I'll just disconnect it and forget it.

Thanks guys!

Disconnect it at the battery if you aren't using it so it doesn't short on anything.

Re: Mystery Wire Connected to Battery

Or just pull the fuse so the power stops there and doesnt short anything. beats having to re set your radio settings if it means disconecting terminals. removing the fuse is the easiest way. just make sure to save it as on of those is like 5 bucks

Did you ever consider under the seat? I do a lot of amp installs under seat because of the clean look it provides, being totally hidden and all.

My power amp is sitting on the shelf under the driver's side access panel.

It kind of looks the way, but if so I can't figure out why it would still be pulling spark. I haven't looked under the seats yet, I'll try there later today.
