hatch pull down (yes another one)

So yeah basically I have a pull down latch problem.

When I turn my key in the trunk lock, the latch frees my trunk "lock", pull up the trunk but as soon as it gets to the highest point possible, the latch goes back down. Normally I would not care since if I grab the trunk while it's lifting, it wont go back down. But if I let it go up and down without grabbing the trunk, the latch system doesn't go ALL THE WAY down, which means if I try to turn my key, nothing happens, since the lock is no longer on and the latch is not completely lowered so it wont come back up.

To summ it up, if i unlock it with my key (by the way my switch doesnt work but who cares) it works... i can grab the trunk and lift it up since the its unlocked itself. But what annoys me is if I dont grab the trunk while it's going up, it automatically goes back down but not COMPLETELY down so if i give it another shot, the motor won't turn since it's not at the lowest point possible.

To sum it up even more:it works fine, but it could be finer

If you guys have any ideas it would be really appreciated. All the topics i have read about this talk about the latch not goi9ng up or down but thats not the case for me.

https://www.thirdgen.org/tech/hatchpulldown.pdf

The Tech Article will help you with the diagnosis and repair. I'd suggest following the instructions, dissamble the latch portion from the frame, clean the tracks with WD40 and re-lube and reassemble. That may help with the unit not cycling down fully.

The reason why the pull-down unit is cycling up, then immediatly going down when it reached the end of the up cycle is because the latch is latching onto the hatch hook on the way up. You can solve this by replacing the hatch truts. That way when the latch releases the hatch hook, the hatch hook will rise far enough up so the latch can't acquire it again on the way up.

i just took the motor off mine and turned the screw until it was at the right height.. now it opens and closes like a normal car without that silly electric motor.

Re: hatch pull down (yes another one)

sounds like you need new hatch struts. mine would do this when i hit the button. hit the button and race to the back before the latch went full up. being the struts were bad and the hatch is heavy the hatch would just ride the cycle.

the only time it wouldnt do this is during the summer right before the struts fully went out, the heat would build the pressure but once the sun went don it was back to norm. after i put new struts on the hatch it will raise about 2 - in above the latch on it own and sometimed it'll raise all the way up.

Re: hatch pull down (yes another one)

Oh the dreaded hatch pull down motor, I hate them with a passion! When mine was working I wouldn't let anyone close it in fear they'd slam the hatch lol. The plastic guides were shot out in mine and finally the gear nut crapped out. I ended taking the motor off and welding the piece that goes up and down to the piece that bolts to the car. I just eyeballed where in needed to be and put a few tacks on it in case I wanted to make it work again.

Re: hatch pull down (yes another one)

guess im one of the few that likes the system. i agree with the "other folks and slamming" thing but i very rarely if ever need anyone to get anything from my car.

just rebuilt mine with the suported case and guides, lemme tell ya, i had no clue how much noize that thing makes when the guides are worn!! after the build and re adj i took it down the road and we have "country paved" roads (reads tar and grey gravel) and alot of the noize in my car went away, about 85%.
