Running Lights/Headlights

Hello, I have a '91 Firebird 5.0L TBI. Just recently I have been having an issue with my exterior lighting. Normally when I turn on the running lights and fog lights, the headlights would stay closed. Currently when I turn the running and fogs on, the covers will flip up, but stay off until I turn the headlights on. Minor issue, but I am wondering if it would be the switch causing this? Or maybe a relay. Thank you very much for your time! Chive on.

Somehow power is getting to the Headlight Door Module when it's not supposed to.

It might be a faulty headlight switch.

Using a voltmeter or test light
(the type for testing for voltage, not a continuity tester) probe the brown wire at the headlight switch.

Is there power there when the headlight switch is in the marker lights position?

If yes, disconnect the
brown wire at the switch.

Is there still power there when the headlight switch is in the marker lights position?

If yes, replace the switch.

Testing . . . . Testing . . . . Is This Thing On ?

First make sure the left marker light does not work in the hazard or turn signal mode, as well as the lights on mode.

If it doesn’t, make a test light from a known good marker bulb to trace the problem.

Clip the test light across the socket, then keep going back till the bulb illuminates.

That will be the break.
