Adjusting tps please help!!!

Ok where to start. My rpms are high on startup 3500 to be exact and I'm tryi g to fix this issue . The iac valve is new and was adjusted thanks to the threads on this board but I'm still having issues with the tps sensor. I took a picture of it showing the three wires . I know I'm suppose to place a voltmeter and make it .54 volts but what wires is it that I connected it to? Please help . Name: 9253CDBB-A4BF-4F3E-AD28-AE9126A543E9-1048-00000087E8A5FC2D.jpg

The article that instructs you to adjust the TPS should have mentioned the blue wire.

Black and blue wires. As long as the voltage is under 1v, and over 4v at wot, it's fine.

If you're constant high idle, your throttle stop may be set wrong or you've a vacuum leak somewhere that the IAC can not compensate for.

Of course we assume that you have checked for big vacuum leaks. 3500 rpm at startup sounds extremely high.

Re: Adjusting tps please help!!!

I had a problem like yours on my 89 rs. What I found was the base gasket under the throttle body was blown. It caused a major vac. Leak and very high idle. Replaced gasket problem fixed. I would say check for vac. Leak around throttle body if the tps. Adjustment doesn't fix the problem

Ill check this tps thing I have a 92 rs 305 . Also I rebuilt the. Tbi with the overhaul kit all gaskets etc . I'm really getting upset at this car because 3500 at startup is way too high and 1500 during drive too I just wish I knew someone that lived close I'm in fort hood

Re: Adjusting tps please help!!!

Over voltage will simply throw a code and cause a slightly rich condition.

The only way for the idle to be that high is a vacuum leak or the throttle stop has been adjusted.

Drive around the block to warm the car up.
Jumper the A-B terminals on the ALDL connector under the dash and turn the key to on/run (don't start), wait about 1 minute (watch for codes to pass the time if you want), then unplug the IAC (and leave it unplugged).

This should fully seat the IAC valve so no extra air is being bypassed around the throttle blades by it.
Remove the jumper, turn the ignition off then, start the car and it should be running at minimum idle now, about 450rpm ±50.

If it still blazing idle speed, the throttle plates are open way to far (throttle stop) or, there is a leak in a gasket or, a vacuum line.

Vacuum can be checked by simply yanking all the lines off the TB and plugging the ports.

Once you've got the idle to what it should be, turn the engine off, plug the IAC back in and restart.

It will take a a short bit for the IAC to reach where it needs to be for correct idle speed.

Ok I will try all this Tom now for the yanking all the lines and plugging them if there's still a high idle that means its a vac leak for sure correct

That will determine if you've a lean in one of your hoses (hvac, brakes, etc).

If pulling the vac lines tames the idle, you've a leak somewhere in the lines.

If it continues to idle just as high as it did, the throttle blades may be open too much or, bad base gasket. If the gasket is new, then, I'd adjust the throttle stop.

The throttle blades should barely be open.

If you haven't pulled/plugged vac lines and the throttle blades are full shut (no pressure on t-stop screw), it still can be a vac line. Ruling out vac line leaves TB gasket. Your leak seems central to all cyls getting air equal to make it high idle.

I'm in Indiana, cant help you with a shop. All ours where I am are crooks or, morons.
