Gauge Color Code
Gauge Color Code
I noticed on the back of many different tac, oil, temp, volt gauges their are different color code strips(one per gauge) like Green, Blue, Lite Blue, Lite pink and so on does anyone know what these colors represent and the correct term and if so could you explain in detail as I have multi sets and the colors seem to be different through out and when I test some work some don't as an example
In one Cluster the Tachometer has a color code of blue and if I swap it with a color code of green it pegs out doesn't work.
or the gas gauge is blue swap it out for the same gauge but the color code is green it goes to empty and lite pink it goes pegs past full...
So as you can see from everything I am reading I thought these gauges were plug and play as they are being tested it a running car where the current gauges all function correctly

Re: Gauge Color Code
Thank you JamesC.
Here are a couple of images that I can provide to show the color code on the back of the gauges I have pulled all gauges from cars with v8 most 305TPI some 350 and 86,87,88,89 years
Looking for a reason on the different color coding.
Is this based on ohms?
The cars trim/electrical package?
Year/Make/Model?
two different Tachometers gauges

Three different fuel gauges

Nothing found suggest anything about this, Though I seem very surprised that there are tons of post within this forum about guages there functions, DIY and how to's, but nothing to which ask the very same questions. But I am still looking

Re: Gauge Color Code
Most likely the coloring is due to part supplier markings. May suggest what shift made said part.
A v8 tach will work the same no matter what car it's in. Fuel and oil read 0-90 ohm since (at least) the 60's up until, I guess, the mid/late 90's.
