alternator wiring question?

Little background, bought the car rolling. Put in a 355 with a holley. Got everything together but can figure out the alternator. Its the 2 prong plug. The thick wire has 12v. The smaller wire from what I understand doubles as the dummy light (light in dash) and as a exciter wire. When I bought the car the engine harness was cut about a foot from the fire wall so wanted to know what wire from the fire wall goes to the smaller wire and excites the alternator. Thanks

Re: alternator wiring question?

Thanks for the diagram! I sorted all the wires out and found more has been removed then was thought. So basically Im going to try something like the one wire conversion. This is the plan any input is appreciated. I have the two wire plug and the one wire directly to the battery. So the red wire from the plug will be looped to the back of the alternator where the battery wire is. Then the brown wire will be off the ignition switch. So it doesnt back charge it self there will be a 7 ohm resistor with a diode in line. I dont see why this woudnt work?

1 wire is a internal mod doing away with the need for the exciter wire
regardless how you wire it ,you will still have a "2 wire" setup because you will still need the exciter input

The brown has to go through a resistor to generate the required signal at Alt
