How do i start diagnosing the vats system?

i don't think you would have spark if it's the vats causing it .

Ok well just to be sure I replaced the Complete Distributer and coil as the coil pickup was not plusing the injectors. Now I'm thinkin its a vats.... Vats system seems to be working, Security light turning off after a few secs.. After reseting my ecu code 12 is the lone code...

VATS only disables the fuel injectors ( and starter ). Even if the ECM is seeing the dist ref pulses from the pickup you will get no injector pulse when VATS is active
Has nothing to do with pump or spark
If it is cranking over ( unless your starter relay operated by VATS has been bypassed ? ), then it is possible but unlikely to be a VATS problem .
have you checked the injector fuses?
