I have an 86 irocz with an 89 305 tpi, its a work in progress.. I am having a problem with my charging system. My uncle thinks the serp belt isnt tight enough, so not turning the alt fast enough to charge.. Alt has been tested and is working.. Advance thinks it may be somewhere in the wiring. The wiring diagram doesnt seem to portray how my wiring is, my wiring has extra pieces and stupid things I cant identify..

Basically, what I think Im asking is, are there any car shows or enthusiasts near the Tampa, FL area in the near future? I need to compare and contrast, I need to pick someones brains, or at least get their opinion on how effed my system is..
I think I should rip everything out and rewire it all, but I cant afford that, so for the time being I need a bandaid on a bullet hole..

Well the system isn't that complicated you should have one wire that charges the battery do a voltage drop on that one to make sure it is good. Then on the black connector that plugs into the alt. there should be one hot with key on. The other ones I would have to get the manuel out for. But those two have to be good to work. Hope that helps.

 

Look up the big 3 wire upgrade and go from there cost like 10 bucks and helps a lot.use 4 or 2 guage wire

 

There is a marker, little lines, on the belt tensioner that shows you if the belt is worn, etc..
As for "seeing', Quaker Steak and Lube has a show tonight (49th Street, Pinellas Park), I live in Seminole... There usually a guy there with a red TA, TPI, don't recall if serpentine of V belt though....
