92 Camaro dies while driving

I have a 92 Camaro 305 tbi, last month I posted about a fuel gauge not working and people said it was either my grounds or the fuel sender unit. My grounds were fine but I never replaced the sender unit because didn't have the money and as long as I just made sure I had gas I could continue to drive. Well today after driving for about 20-30 minutes my rpms dropped and my car died, we pushed to a nearby gas station I put in $30 dollars worth of gas, car still wouldn't start so we sat and waited to figure out what to do 15 minutes later car fires up I drive 2 miles and same thing rpms dropped and car died, ended up happening twice to get home. Could this be my sender unit? And or fuel pump

I'm guessing fuel pump, I had one on our Ford Windstar mini van that did much the same things you describe. Ck your fuel pump fuse and see if there is any deformation in the wire within the fuse. Hook a fuel pressure tester up to the rail and test. It should pre charge/operate for a couple of seconds with the key turned to the ON position prior to cranking. Not sure of the exact pressure but should be @40-60lbs. The in tank pumps can last 20k to 200k miles. Good luck hope this helps.

Re: 92 Camaro dies while driving

Car starts when cold, but not when hot, is often the fuel pressure regulator (FPR).

I don't have any personal experience that the FPR would cause a shutdown while running, but it is logical that such behavior could also be related to the FPR.

Check the vacuum line on the FPR for the presence of gasoline.

There should be no gasoline in the FPR vacuum line.

Where is the FPR located?

and problem is definitely effected by the cars temp, drove to work in morning low 60s and was fine. went to leave work when car had been sitting in the sun no start. go back late when in 50s and ran home fine
