Help!! 87 Camaro Iroc z28 issues

I traded my snowmobile for a supposedly perfectly running 87 Camaro that just needed a bit of body work and paint. I went to bring it out of storage yesterday and the battery would not hold a charge. After charging the battery off another car untill I got her close enough to a garage where I had a brand new battery installed and had the altenator (brand new) checked it seemed fine for about 100kms but then my gauges were showing the battery was dying again and the fans were not working and she overheated. I called the guy and he said its a wiring issue. Has anyone had similar issue or does anyone know where I could start I have no idea about any wiring in cars or any in depth mechanical stuff. I only agreed to the deal because she was supposed to be in perfect running condition just needed the body work which I can manage. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Re: Help!! 87 Camaro Iroc z28 issues

i would start by checking the condition of the ground wires. there should be one that goes from the block to the firewall, also one at the front that goes from the battery to alternator bracket, this one should also connect to the inside fender well by where the battery sits. After that i would check the actual wires that are attached to the alternator(i believe there should be 3) i know one runs to the starter, but i am not sure where the other ones come from. I do know that one of these wires is the one that tells your alternator to charge. Also could you post your location, there maybe someone local who might be able to help you with your problem, sometimes its handy to have another pair of eyes to look at the problem.
