91 camaro 350 swap 6AL ignition trouble
ok so here is my issue. i have a 91 camaro. i swapped the 3.1 and 700r4 for a carburated 350 and TH350 trans.i have a complete procomp ignition 6AL box blaster coil and distrubuter. my RPMs go up and down when its running and gets worse when its in gear. i have been all over the place under my hood messing with this issue. finally i took the wire from the 6AL box that goes to the ignition and hooked it directly to the battery and jumped the starter (left the key switch off) the car runs PERFECTLY! so i know its ignition related. but soon as i turn key switch to on position problem starts again. key back to off problem goes away. i would rig it to work this way except with the key switch in off position i have no radio, cant take car out of gear, blinkers and headlights are dim, and i will have to run a new toggle switch and wires.. i just want it to run the correct way. this is my first time using a 6AL set up. i would like to keep the 6AL set up but i may go with HEI if that stops the issue. any advice will help.

FWIW,
everything Procomp is made in China
Procomp the company is only registered in Australia to give it respectability to the outside world

Ok, I get where your going with that. However lime I said if I straight wire the 6AL box and jump the starter with the key switch in the off position the car runs at 100%. Why would it act different with the ignition in the off position? Makes no sense to me. I'm gonna try a HEI distributed see if that changes it.

High resistance , intermittent short may be giving problems when you use that supply

Re: 91 camaro 350 swap 6AL ignition trouble
ok, so i have narrowed the problem down to the plug that goes into the back of the altenator. if i unplug the 2 wire plug to the altenator the problem goes away completely. the only down side is my guage for the battery also quits. i cut the wire for the guage and pluged the plug back in. the car runs AWSOME.. now my only question is if the guage isnt working will that affect the car keeping a charge? if not i can deal with it until i have time to track the rest of the issue down.
thanx..
