Re: stupid question. what is a pull down motor?
The pull down motor refers to the motor that pulls down the hatch when its closed. When you close the hatch, you will see that the hatch is not closed all the way. Then the motor will pull it down the rest of the way. Not forsure what year thirdgens got them but it started around 87. Maybe 86. Anything before that will have just a regular hatch latch. If it started in 86 or 87, they had a production run till 92 when the last thirdgen rolled off the line.

There is a relay you can change for the hatch motor. About 2 years ago mine wasnt working so I replaced the relay to no avail.... carefully poked at the mechanism that acts as the latch (Looking down at the motor, in the center) with a long nail. The mechanism that pulls the hatch down was only stuck, replaced the relay for no reason.... Lol... Try carefully poking at the motor ready to move whatever you use out of the way to see if it's stuck. If that doesn't work replace the relay... If that doesn't work shop for a new motor..... You hopefully won't need a need motor. >> Mike
