Neutral Safety Switch

So lately sometimes i go to start my trans am and it just wont start. It wont turn over, its not the battery or the starter because if i play with the shifter in the center it will start.

So i am just trying to figure out where the neutral safety switches are located on these cars, and what it would look like.

I have a 1986 trans am

Re: Neutral Safety Switch

Is part of the 6 wire switch at base of the shifter that includes the backup switch.
Whole unit must be replaced
