I need to identify these relays in the image this was an 84 z28 high output carbureted so it didn't have an electronic fuel pump and i am pretty sure it didn't have a MAF so what are these?

Re: relay identification

I can't see the photos, but there are several relays that deal with everything from your head lamps to a/c; where is it located on the car? If you have the stock carb setup, it's unlikely that the relay is for the engine control or emissions systems.

Re: relay identification

I have been working on the same issue. I have a factory service manual and here is what I came up with after hours of research. I have a 84 carb'ed firebird that originally had a hood louver.

First here is your picture. I cannot see the wires, but it is fairly close to mine.

#1: MAP (Differential Pressure Sensor). There is also a Barometric Pressure towards the passenger side, along the top of back of engine compartment. It is also a MAP.

#2: Throttle Kicker Relay or Idle Speed Control (14039663). Wire Colors: blue, black, pnk/blk, brn/white, green. Five wires total

#3: Fuel Pump Relay (14078902). I know it does not make sense for a carb'ed car, but it is the only relay that matches the wire color on the schematics. The wire color is org/blk, purple/white, blk/white, tan/white. It is supposed to be tied to the fusebox: org/blk = 10 amp F Pump fuse & purple/white = 3 amp crank fuse.

I thought it was the ac control relay, but the schematics show those wires as pnk/blk, dk blue, dk grn, dk grn/white. Also, on the V8's instead of the ac control relay it shows the pressure cycling switch controlling the power to the a/c compressor. I also checked out headlight relays, but nothing matched the colors.

#4: Coolant Fan Relay: wire colors: red, blk/pnk, brn/wht, dk grn

#5: Electronic Spark Control

Here is a picture of what is on my car:

#1: MAP (Differential Pressure Sensor).
#2: Electronic Spark Control
#3: Coolant Fan Relay
#4: Hood Louver Vacuum Switch
#5: Throttle Kicker Relay or Idle Speed Control (14039663)
#6: Fuel Pump Relay (14078902)
