voltage
my 88 IROC seems to dim all power with the voltage indicator dropping down a bit when I drop past 32 mph, then goes back to normal why does it do that? also RARELY ill be sitting at a red light then my voltage indicator starts dropping down a lil bit for a while then goes back to normal. I would love to know the answer to this, because I had an 88 years ago and from past ecpierance when I see that gauge drop its gonna die so I always have a lil anxiety when this happens..

Re: voltage
I have had similar issues with my 88 GTA, and I replaced the alternator, thinking it was a voltage regulator issue. The problem persisted.
I am theorizing now that after 25 years, I probably have some poor ground connections and/or deteriorated wiring. The problem is not serious enough (yet) to be anything more than a little annoying, so I am living with it until I get a chance to go through it thoroughly.

A Bit Is Still Fit
The gage might be off, which you can check with an test instrument grade meter.
You say it drops off a bit, but that doesnt quantify.
Typically your car has a tire dia of about 26, a diff of 3.23 therefore at 32MPH the RPM while cruising would be about 1300.
At idle of course its only about 600.
Make sure you are using stock pulley sizes.
Again, a bit is not a problem.

Re: A Bit Is Still Fit
Granted, "a bit" is not a problem, and I can't speak for the OP, but when my meter is reading low, my intermittent wipers stop working. They start working again as soon as the voltage goes back up to "normal".
I plan to check into it further when I can afford some down time.

Re: voltage
i have this same problem. my car will drop low and my ac stops blowing wipers are extra slow. windows dont work, and my lights dim alot to where i cant drive it at night now.
If you figure it out that would be great lol. im just gonna take it to the shop monday..
92 camaro rs, v6 3.1 ....
ive noticed by playing with my key while the car is on i can make it switch back and forth to low power to regular power.. or pushing a button like windows or my shifter button it will cut it down to low power mode as i call it now lol.. or ya just driving down the road it will randomly do this, or just sitting at stop light... extra annoying.. i checked an the alternator it is good, battery is still good... i donnu what could be..
here is my thread with details.
