I have a column from my old 91 in my 86 with a carbed 350 ( when I got the 86 the key was broke off in the ignition switch.) had to spice wiper control( different between years) but the vats column works fine. Hope you had luck with yours

VATS column does NOTHING , because with a carb swap there is nothing looking for a input signal from the VATS module
which means having the chipped key ( or not ) is irrelevant.
