low beams are high beams? what? so confused
low beams are high beams? what? so confused
hey there guys, so I have an 82 z28, stock on the outside all the way down to the mud flaps. Inside I have an early 70s 350 built to about 400horses, and an msd ignition. Well i'm having an issue, my lights are *** backwards to put it simply. I turn my low beam on and they do nothing, I turn my high beams on and all four turn on. Anyone have a solution for this? I would think a relay or something....everything in the fuse box looks fine.
oh and this is the absolute last thing I need to pass inspection. so please help me out here guys, i'm bordering desperation.

My guess...Within the steering housing, there is a tab that clicks to turn the high beam on and off. It may have not been seated improperly (or there could be a metal contact causing it to short. On the lower part of the steering column, you may be able to see a rod that goes to the switch in the upper steering column. Maybe the wiring. Has anyone worked on the wiring before? And lastly, a possible relay. Please keep me posted on anything you discover.

You can adjust the dimmer switch by loosening the hardware at the bottom of the column, then slide it into position, tighten it then test with stalk, then readjust as required.
Here are the Dimmer Switch wire colors:
Yellow for the power input, tan for the lo-beam output, light green for the hi-beam output.
You can use a voltmeter to help with the Dimmer Switch positioning so you won’t have to keep getting in and out of the cramped working space.
In no amount of Dimmer Switch positioning cures the problem the Dimmer Switch is probably defective.
You can then remove it and manually operate it to verify.
