wiper motor

So I'm trying to resurrect an 83 Z28 for my son and it's coming along albeit slowly. I've gotten some good info from this site and I appreciate it. Now I just replaced the wiper motor because I wasn't getting anything from the old one and the pulse board got fried by a fire sometime in the car's past. I hooked everything up and when I activate the wipers in every setting all I get are clicks from the motor assembly. I have 12v to the middle wire (looks to be white or yellow) on the 3 prong plug that is jumped to the white wire on the 2 prong plug which I checked and is also getting 12v. I'm also getting 12v to the single drk green wire plug. Is there a diagram anywhere which shows the function of each wire? I see the white supplies power and a small I'm guessing it's called a capacitor runs from that to the purple wire on the same plug. I checked the fuse and it's good so I'm kinda stuck. The motor looks identical to the old one except for the washer outlet nozzles are facing toward the distributor. I got the pulse model (which I assume is GMs term for delay) which by looking at the **** I think the car came with originally. Any help would be appreciated.

With the wiper unit unplugged, key in the ACCY position, and the wiper switch in the HI position, use a voltmeter or test light (the type for testing for voltage, not a continuity tester) to probe the pink, dark green, gray, and purple wires.

Which wires do you have power on?

Re: wiper motor

I get 11.7 to the dark green wire, 4.7 to the purple, and nothing to pink and gray with wipers on high. I thought maybe it wasn't getting a good ground as it grounds to the firewall so I tried a jumper wire but it still won't work. Still getting loud clicks when turning the **** though.

We will call the 11.7 volts 12 volts.

On HIGH, you need 12 volts on the
purple wire as well as the
dark green wire.

Sounds like there is a bad connection or a defective washer stalk switch on the steering column.

You can find out where the problem is by probing the switch at the column.

If you get 12 volts on the
purple wire at the 11 pin connector at the right of the column, the voltage drop is occurring between that connector and the wiper.

That was the problem with my wipers, only the low setting worked the wipers, and all i heard was a clicking noise on hi or wash but no wipers working. I replaced the turn signal lever and all worked good after that

Re: wiper motor

ok I'm still stuck on this. I have 12v to the purple wire, I even jumped a wire to this from the battery to see if anything would happen. Took the cover off the motor and when I turn the **** from low to high I can see the mechanism sliding over on the motor but no wiper movement. I bought the original service manual for an 83 Camaro and following the troubleshooting steps for inoperative wipers. Probed it with a test light and made it to where they wanted me to probe the red wire on the motor itself. I thought maybe the motor was defective so I returned it and got another, got home hooked it up and now nothing again, no clicks even. I didn't think it would be this difficult to get wipers to work. Hmmmm.
