Neutral Safety Switch

So im buying a 87 camaro z28, 305 and setup for a 5spd. Doesnt have the tranny. He said it cant be started without the tranny because it has a neutral safety switch and if you push the clutch in to start it then that will ruin the slave cylinder.

Is this all correct? I dont wanna buy this and find the engine is junk

Car: 82 Z28
Engine: 383 SP EFI/ 4150 TB
Transmission: T400
Axle/Gears: QP 9" 3.73
Re: Neutral Safety Switch

Remove the connector from the switch ( at top of clutch pedal ) jumper the 2 wires in the connector together.
Switch is now bypassed and the engine should start

FWIW ,
the clutch cyl has limited travel , once it has reached it's limit it can't go any further and won't be damaged
In any case ,usually you don't have to move the clutch pedal very far anyway for the NSS to work ; at least not full travel of the pedal

like I said , pull the connector off the clutch switch and jumper the terminals .
turn key to START
Or run a wire from the starter solenoid terminal to the Batt Pos+ terminal.Turn key to RUN
Touching that will ( should ) make the engine crank over without going anywhere near the clutch pedal

Car: 84 Camaro and a 82 camaro
Engine: Both are 5.7 litters
Transmission: Both are manual transmission
Axle/Gears: Both 3.73
Re: Neutral Safety Switch

I put all this new and my 84 Camaro stock manual transmission will not start. New starter, battery, ignition dimmer switch, new tumbler, checked the following msd box and coil, the fusible link, power coming into cabin and back out. Also checked the power coming back to the wire to s terminal of starter. The only thing I can think of is the clutch safety switch???
