'87 GTA Digital Dash/electrical Problems

Hey all, got a list of problems that some of you could hopefully help me fix.

My 87 GTA has a digital dash. The speedo won't switch from kph to mph: its stuck on kph.

The odometer doesnt work most of the time. Sometimes it would come on while driving, but when it's not moving, no shazam.

So are these problems solved with replacing the dashboard, soldering, etc?

Not specifically dash related: Hazard lights don't work and neither do the turn signals. And the hatch release doesn't work, but the keyed entry does.

Please also note that I really don't have much experience with electrical components in cars. Thanks guys.

Re: '87 GTA Digital Dash/electrical Problems

Hey guys, I took the dashboard out of the car, so here's some pictures of it.

The circuit board on the driver info panel looks like it has something peeling up. Is this a source of some of the problems, or is it just a cover for the board?

I am thinking about just buying a new dashboard assembly and steering column, because it might be the easier (and nicer looking) way to go.

Mine had the same problem last year. It turned out a dime fell in the cigarette lighter and blew out a fuse. I replaced the fuse and it worked fine again.

What fuse was it and where is it? I'm not experienced with car electronics at all...

I believe it was the courtesy fuse.

Is that under the driver's side fuse panel?

Re: '87 GTA Digital Dash/electrical Problems

Well, I checked the fuses today, and sure enough, the courtesy fuse was blown. I changed it with a fresh one and now almost everything works.

The only remaining issues I have are no hazards or turn signals. When I bought the car there was no horn in it, so one of the previous owners could have messed around with the steering column. But the turn signals worked and now they don't.
