Wipers inop and fuse blows

Hi, I am a novice when it comes to car electronics, so I appreciate the advice in advance.

Here is the problem: all wiper functions inop on my 1982 Trans Am. I changed the fuse, but it blew again when power was applied.

Is this caused by a short somewhere in the system and, if so, what is the best way to determine where? Thanks,

Look at the connection where it goes into the delay portion of the wiper motor, there is a double set of connections, my were pushed together and it kept blowing the fuse, this is the connection for the intermitant wipers

Thanks, I tried that and at least the fuse did not blow, but there is now a heavy load (i.e., noticable drop on voltmeter) when the wiper switch is activated (and the wipers still do not work).

Open the wiper motor unit.

Apply 12 volts thru a fuse to the
purple wire.

If the motor is good it will run.

If the fuse blows it’s probably a defective motor.
