new tach help??

Hey so when I bought my car, the tach wasn't working and I've just been dealing with it since I bought it. The guy I bought it from put in new engine in it and switched to carb, which is nice. So I think I'm gonna be putting in a new Tach soon, and I'm just wondering how the wiring is gonna go? can I just run the wire from the distributor straight to the tach or does it need to go through a fuse first??

Fuse goes on the tacho 12V power supply wire, not the tacho signal wire from the coil

Depending how well butchered your carb swap wiring is ,the stock tacho feed to the dash may still be in place so you don't have to run a new wire through the firewall.
Look in the factory harness for a white wire by the coil
